GAP are a local Charity offering Arts for Wellbeing to people with long term physical health, mental health and neurodiverse needs.
These sessions are offered three times a week, at different times and locations, during term time only. You have the opportunity to meet new people, try new activities, and learn new skills. Our groups are sociable and very relaxed and there is no commitment to attend every week, although we have found that most people return again and again.
Each half-term we work on a new creative theme, with different activities being offered each week. Our Project Lead Clare will guide you through a number of activities including printmaking, painting, drawing, collage, up-cycling, sculpture, textiles, and much more.
Our Wellbeing Support worker Catherine can chat with you privately at the session for any wellbeing or emotional support you may need.
Sessions are £1 per session towards running costs of the sessions.
We offer spaces up to 12 people maximum.

Print Making
We bought our first piece of equipment in 2016 – a fantastic Printmaker – everyone, especially Clare has enjoyed different printing techniques. We made collagraphs and produced pictures and cards for sale and and to take home.
Natural Form – The Face
Our project – The Face – we drew our faces – looking in a mirror, with our eyes closed and with our non-dominant hand. We drew in pastels and charcoal and we collaged our faces. We concentrated on various areas of the face and learnt new techniques. Not everyone was happy looking in a mirror, but everyone joined in.
Wire Art
Our Wire art sessions produced some incredible pieces of 2d and 3d artwork. Our participants used recycled wire donated by our electrician friend The Vital Spark.
Watercolours
We enjoyed our very own watercolour challenge! Everyone chose something different to paint. Some very simple yet beautiful pieces were produced and some intricate and interesting images created.
Environment Project – March 2018
We were asked by one of our participants if we could do a project based on packaging and its effects on the Environment. Plastic, cardboard, paper, foil, all types of packaging is something that we all dispose of daily but how much of it is recyclable?
We are seeing ever increasing images of how this affects our wildlife, pictures of whales trapped in fishing nets, birds with plastic beer holders around their bodies, animals consuming it thinking it is food, etc. It is having devastating consequences on our environment therefore by creating a project which highlights this can bring about change and raise discussions.
Our participants collected household packaging to be disposed of over one week and brought this into the session. We soon had a mountain of packaging to be used within our art creations.
Below are the completed pieces of artwork using the animals as an outline filled with the waste by products of everyday life. These were displayed in Glossop Train Station Art Gallery as well as a collaborative piece on display in The Bureau, Glossop.
Suffragette Project
A commemorative project celebrating 100 years of Women’s suffrage.
Bob and Roberta Smith project
A project looking at the work of Bob and Roberta Smith’s placards, the style, typeface, colours and what they are portraying to the viewer. Using mono printing techniques throughout.
